Protein and Thoughts

Plant-eaters can be strong too.

The "health community" has been obsessed with protein since THE ZONE diet came out in the late 1990s.

Lucas Rockwood The myth says that the lack of protein in our diets is the cause of the obesity epidemic. That IS true in the same way that lack of kindness is why most marriages fail.

It is true... I guess... sort of... but that's not the REAL story.

Sugar is what makes people fat. Plain and simple. Starving kids living off bread or rice are thin as beans and they hardly get any protein at all while the poor American kids living off processed cereals and candy bars (also eating very little protein) are chubby enough to get diabetes before the 5th grade.

With obesity, protein isn't the problem. Sugar is.

Now if you give up the sugar and eat more protein in its place, that is a very good move indeed. But what KIND of protein are you gonna eat?

If you've got access to free range, organic animal foods, then you might be in luck.

But if you're grubbing on commercial chicken or beef, you've now entered the dark underworld of animal food production.

I don't have to tell you that it's not a place you'd choose to dine if you saw where that stuff comes from.

Animal protein is loaded with antibiotics and toxins, and dairy is the same with the added hiccup that milk protein is carcinogenic.

Cry me a river, Haagen Dazs.

So what's a skinny, earth-conscious fellow to do? I'll be the first to tell you that it's not easy. Green vegetables are king, organic nuts and seeds too.

Legumes are pretty essential, but what happens when you're traveling? Or exercising intensely? Or just don't have time to cook?

And really... can you be strong on a plant-based diet? The answer is yes, you can be REALLY strong, and you can get plenty of protein from your food especially with some occasional help from an all-natural, plant-based protein supplement.

Trouble is, you don't want soy protein. It's nasty stuff that messes with your digestion and causes allergies. And whey protein brings us back to that same issue with casein (carcinogenic protein in milk).

So THAT'S why I created YOGA PROTEIN. It's plant protein from sprouted brown rice. It's light and tasty, and digests really fast.

Stay bendy,

Lucas Rockwood
