A Yoga Ambulance Story
Hang around
long enough and you're bound to see...
And once, I
even had to call an ambulance. I came out of the
studio to find a woman all curled up on the floor with her fingers
clenched
like claws extremely distraught. This was the
worst I'd ever seen, but I'd seen it before.
She was dehydrated. That's what happens. It's a scary sight. When we spoke
later, she explained that she never drinks
water - literally almost never. She has coffee in the morning and tea
(with
caffeine) at lunch. And then comes to class with a little water bottle
that she
often forgets about. Crazy as it
sounds, this happens regularly enough to freak a
teacher out. That's why I don't mind if students drink in my classes. As long as you
don't seize up, I'm happy. :) Seriously
though, dehydration is a very big problem, the
underlying cause behind most headaches, constipation, and the general
midday
blah that people often feel. You see, your
hydration level, your electrolyte levels
specifically, directly affect your body's ability to send electrical
impulses. Hydrated people
= Improved performance. Plus, you just
feel great. Problem is, just drinking water
doesn't do it. Our food is way too cooked and dry, our water is
difficult to
absorb because the minerals have usually been removed. So what do you
do? Here are a few
quick tips:
Hope you find
that useful.
